Machine control definition and UI

Part of the Controls and electronics section. Local stand-alone controls, indicators, safety UI, and lockout/tagout.

Introduction

This page defines the operator-facing controls and indicators for P6 within the Controls and electronics subsystem. The machine must be operable as a stand-alone unit with local ON/OFF and run/stop controls at the top-front, with clear indicators for RUNNING/STOPPED and safety-open state. Three coded lid safety interlocks (from the Enclosure / shell) prevent operation when any cover is open. A rear lockout/tagout (LOTO) unit is required for service and seasonal teardown.

Colour(s)Component
Top-front control unit — ON/START, OFF/STOP, E-STOP, RUNNING and STOPPED indicators.
Safety status indicator — "machine open" indicator when any lid interlock is open.
Rear LOTO unit — lockout/tagout isolation point accessible from the top-rear.

Questions for contractor

  1. Recommend industrial components and enclosure/IP rating appropriate for washdown exposure.
  2. Propose panel layout that is ergonomic (top-front) and maintainable, with clear labeling and indicator logic.
  3. Propose LOTO architecture and location that meets plant practice while remaining simple for operators.
  4. Recommend coded safety lid hardware (magnet code anti-misuse) and wiring/integration approach using the same control boards as the commercial machine.
