Machine control definition and UI

Part of the Controls and electronics section. Local stand-alone controls, indicators, safety UI, and lockout/tagout.

Introduction

This page defines the operator-facing controls and indicators for P6 within the Controls and electronics subsystem. The machine must be operable as a stand-alone unit with local ON/OFF and run/stop controls at the top-front, with clear indicators for RUNNING/STOPPED and safety-open state. Three coded lid safety interlocks (from the Enclosure / shell) prevent operation when any cover is open. A rear lockout/tagout (LOTO) unit is required for service and seasonal teardown.

Discussion

Rough design & intent

Stand-alone operation — local power and run controls allow independent operation, inspection, component replacement, and simple cleaning.
Clear state indication — operator should quickly see whether the machine is running, stopped, or prevented from running due to safety-open conditions.

Easy access — isolate power quickly for service.
Lockable — designed for lockout/tagout process (plant procedures may vary).

Known issues & risks

Washdown exposure — UI and wiring must be water protected; choose enclosures, seals, and glands appropriate for industrial cleaning.
Safety logic clarity — avoid ambiguous states; make it obvious why the machine will not start (open lid, E-stop, etc.).

Questions for contractor

Recommend industrial components and enclosure/IP rating appropriate for washdown exposure.
Propose panel layout that is ergonomic (top-front) and maintainable, with clear labeling and indicator logic.
Propose LOTO architecture and location that meets plant practice while remaining simple for operators.
Recommend coded safety lid hardware (magnet code anti-misuse) and wiring/integration approach using the same control boards as the commercial machine.
